Industrial shed roofing India — steel cladding, Galvalume sheets and insulated panels
Industrial shed roofing in India is the cladding and waterproofing layer that sits on top of the structural steel frame — the element that keeps the rain out, moderates the internal temperature, and determines the long-term performance of the industrial building. Getting the roofing specification right is just as important as getting the structural frame right. A well-designed steel frame covered with poor-quality or incorrectly installed roofing will leak within two or three monsoon seasons. Suncorporation supplies and installs industrial shed roofing systems as part of our complete industrial shed fabrication and erection scope — the same organisation that designed and erected the structure installs the roofing, eliminating the coordination problems between separate structure and cladding contractors.

Industrial shed roofing systems used in India
Galvalume roofing sheets — the standard for Indian industrial sheds
Galvalume-coated trapezoidal profiled steel sheet is the standard industrial shed roofing material in India. Galvalume is a zinc-aluminium alloy coating applied to a high-tensile steel base — the aluminium in the coating provides barrier protection, and the zinc provides sacrificial cathodic protection at cut edges and scratches. The result is a roofing product that provides 20 to 25 years of maintenance-free corrosion protection in most Indian industrial atmospheric environments, at a cost that is significantly lower than alternative materials.
Standard Galvalume coating weights for industrial shed roofing in India are AZ70 (70 g/m²) for internal applications and AZ150 (150 g/m²) for external roofing and cladding. The base steel is 0.47mm or 0.50mm thick high-tensile steel — thicker sheets cost more but provide better rigidity, better hail resistance, and longer service life. For industrial sheds in coastal or aggressive industrial atmospheric environments, AZ185 or AZ200 coating weight is specified.
Colour-coated Galvalume (PPGI) roofing sheets
Pre-painted Galvalume — also called PPGI or colour-coated Galvalume — is Galvalume sheet with a factory-applied paint system on the top surface. The paint system provides both additional corrosion protection and an aesthetic colour finish. Standard paint systems for industrial shed roofing in India use a polyester top coat (20 microns DFT) over a primer, producing a finish life of 10 to 15 years before repainting is required. Premium paint systems using PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) top coats provide 25 to 30 year fade resistance and are specified for prestige industrial developments or for roofing visible from the road.
Standard colours available in Indian industrial shed roofing PPGI include terracotta, leaf green, silver grey, tile red, and sky blue — chosen to match the corporate colour scheme of the occupant or to minimise heat absorption (lighter colours reflect more solar radiation and maintain lower internal temperatures). For pharmaceutical and food processing shed roofing, white or off-white PPGI is standard to maximise light reflectance inside the building.
Insulated sandwich panels for industrial shed roofing
Insulated sandwich panels — also called PUF panels (polyurethane foam) or PIR panels (polyisocyanurate) — consist of two steel face skins bonded to a rigid foam core. They are used for industrial shed roofing where temperature control is required: cold storage warehouses, food processing facilities, pharmaceutical manufacturing plants, and air-conditioned production areas. The foam core provides thermal insulation (typically R-value of 2.5 to 4.5 m²K/W for 50mm to 100mm panel thickness) and eliminates the need for a separate insulation layer.
Insulated sandwich panel industrial shed roofing in India costs significantly more than standard Galvalume sheet roofing — Rs 280 to Rs 450 per sq ft depending on panel thickness, compared to Rs 35 to Rs 55 per sq ft for standard Galvalume. However, for temperature-controlled facilities the energy saving from the insulated envelope — reduced air conditioning load throughout the building’s operational life — makes the higher upfront cost economical over a 10 to 15 year payback period.

Industrial shed roofing accessories and components
A complete industrial shed roofing system in India includes more than just the main roofing sheet. The accessories — ridge cappings, eave trims, flashings, gutters, downpipes, and ventilators — are as important as the main sheet for achieving a weathertight, functional roof. Suncorporation supplies all roofing accessories as part of the complete industrial shed roofing scope:
- Ridge cappings — pre-formed Galvalume or PPGI sections that close the ridge of the building between the two roof slopes, preventing rainwater entry and wind-driven rain penetration. Ridge cappings are fixed over a foam filler strip to seal the corrugations of the main roofing sheet.
- Eave trims and barge trims — the metal trims that finish the edge of the roof at the eave (bottom edge) and barge (side edge), preventing wind uplift on the sheet edge and providing a clean visual finish.
- Gutters and downpipes — the rainwater drainage system that collects roof runoff and directs it to the site drainage. Gutters for Indian industrial shed roofing are typically Galvalume box section, sized by the catchment area and the local design rainfall intensity. Downpipes are at regular intervals depending on the gutter length and gradient.
- Turbo ventilators — wind-powered rotary ventilators fixed at ridge level that extract hot air from the roof space by centrifugal force, without any electrical power. Standard on factory sheds and warehouses in India where heat build-up in the roof space reduces the working environment temperature below the ridge level. Typically specified at one 600mm diameter turbo ventilator per 50 to 80 sq m of roof area.
- Ridge ventilators — continuous ridge ventilators that provide higher air extract capacity than individual turbo ventilators, used for large span sheds or for sheds with heat-generating processes inside.
- Translucent sheets — polycarbonate or fibreglass translucent sheet panels installed in the roof at regular intervals to provide natural daylight inside the shed without electrical lighting. Typically 10 to 15% of the roof area in translucent panels provides adequate daylighting for most industrial operations.
Industrial shed roofing installation — what matters in quality
Industrial shed roofing leaks in India almost always trace back to one of three causes: inadequate end laps between sheets (minimum 150mm end lap is required, and the lap must be sealed with butyl sealant tape before the fixing screws are installed); incorrect side lap fixing (the side lap between adjacent sheets must be fixed with self-drilling screws at the correct spacing — typically every 300mm — to prevent wind uplift opening the lap); or inadequate flashing at penetrations (every roof penetration — ventilator base, gutter outlet, wall junction — needs a properly formed and sealed flashing to prevent water ingress around the penetration).
Suncorporation’s roofing installation team applies end lap sealant, correctly spaces all fixing screws, and forms and seals all flashings as standard practice. The installation supervisor checks end laps and side laps before the next row of sheets is laid — catching any missing sealant or incorrect screw spacing before the problem is covered by subsequent sheets. Industrial shed roofing installation quality is checked against the roofing system supplier’s installation manual, not just against general practice.
