What counts as heavy fabrication
Heavy fabrication describes demanding platework, large welded members and complex assemblies; it has no universal minimum plate thickness or component weight. Structural packages can include transfer trusses, deep plate girders, pipe rack frames, equipment supports and fabricated members for industrial plants and infrastructure. Feasibility depends on the drawings, materials, weld details, handling arrangements and transport limits.

Plate thicknesses and materials we work with
Specify the material grade, product standard, plate thickness and required test certificates in the enquiry. Impact-test requirements depend on the specified grade and quality, design temperature, applicable standard and project specification; a plate thickness above 25 mm alone does not establish a universal Charpy test requirement. Available thicknesses, procurement sources and component handling limits must be confirmed for each package.
How we weld thick plate
The welding procedure, welder qualifications and inspection plan must meet the contract’s specified standards. Joint preparation, welding process, consumables, preheat and interpass temperature depend on the steel composition, thickness, joint restraint, hydrogen control and qualified procedure. A single plate-thickness threshold is not a sufficient basis for setting preheat. Confirm the applicable WPS/PQR and welder qualification records during technical review.
Weld testing and inspection
Ultrasonic testing (UT) can be specified for suitable volumetric weld examination; magnetic particle testing (MT/MPI) detects surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials; penetrant testing (PT) detects surface-breaking discontinuities in suitable non-porous materials. The inspection plan should define the method, extent, acceptance criteria, personnel qualifications, reporting and third-party hold points. Confirm these requirements and the inspection arrangements before placing the order.
Large girders and heavy columns
Plate girder web and flange dimensions, weld type and size, stiffeners, camber and inspection requirements follow the approved design and fabrication drawings. Full-penetration flange-to-web welds are not required for every girder. Built-up I-sections or box columns should be selected by the structural designer for the actual loads, stability and connection requirements; fabrication follows those details.
