Steel Skid Base and Equipment Frame Fabrication

Sun Corporation fabricates structural steel bases and frames for pumps, compressors, tanks, skid-mounted packages and other plant equipment, from our workshop in Hyderabad. We work from approved drawings and equipment vendor data.

This is a steel frame service, not a complete process skid. We supply the structural base. Piping, instruments, electrical work, equipment mounting and testing of the packaged system stay with the skid package supplier unless the enquiry says otherwise.

Structural bases we fabricate

  • Pump and motor base frames, including baseplate-style frames with grouting provision where drawn
  • Compressor, blower and generator-set base frames
  • Tank, vessel and filter support frames
  • Frames for skid-mounted packages that carry equipment, piping and walkways
  • Maintenance platforms and access steel attached to the frame, where shown on the drawings

Fixed supports, pedestals and multi-level equipment structures are covered on our equipment support structures page. This page is for self-contained bases that are fabricated, moved and set down as one unit.

Where the frame ends and the skid package begins

The words skid and frame get used for different scopes, so we write the boundary down in the quotation.

  • Frame fabrication (what we quote): cutting, fitting, welding, drilling, finishing and delivery of the steel base to the drawing.
  • Package integration (usually someone else): equipment installation, piping, valves, instruments, electrical and control wiring, performance testing.
  • Design: frame sizing and load cases come from the equipment supplier or responsible designer. We do not provide independent structural design certification.

Loads, lifting points and transport

A frame that works on the drawing board can fail on the lorry. Please tell us the operating and empty weights, the centre of gravity if known, and whether the frame will be lifted with equipment fitted.

  • Lifting points: lugs or lifting holes, their positions and the sling arrangement assumed by the designer.
  • Transport: overall size against road limits, and whether the frame travels whole or in sections that join on site.
  • Restraints: temporary bracing or tie-down points needed during transport.
  • Interfaces: equipment mounting hole patterns, tolerances, levelling arrangements, anchor bolts and grout space.

Fabrication and inspection requirements

The project specification decides the steel grade, welding procedure, inspection and records. Send it with the enquiry and we quote to it. The required material certificates, dimensional inspection records, welding documentation and test reports are agreed against the project specification before order acceptance. Mounting-face flatness, hole positions and overall squareness are called out on the drawing. The check method and tolerance values come from the drawing or specification, not from a standard figure of ours.

Surface finish is specified per member group: painting system, galvanising where the frame size allows it, or a bare finish for later coating. Say which. We offer hot-dip galvanising. Galvanised assemblies require suitable venting and drainage. Maximum assembly dimensions and any staged dipping arrangements are confirmed before fabrication. See manufacturer credentials for general company information.

What to send for a quotation

  • General arrangement drawing and equipment vendor drawings, with revision
  • Equipment weights, mounting details and anchor requirements
  • Steel grade, welding, inspection and coating specification
  • Quantity of identical frames, delivery location and required date
  • Whether delivery, unloading or site positioning is included

The enquiry form has an optional upload for up to three files of 10 MB each (PDF, DWG, XLSX, DOC, DOCX, JPG, PNG).
