Data Centre Structural Steel Fabrication and Erection

Sun Corporation fabricates and erects structural steel for data centre projects from its workshop in Hyderabad, working from approved structural and equipment drawings. A typical package covers building frames and secondary steel, equipment support steel, chiller and generator platforms, utility and cable support structures, and maintenance access.

We supply the steelwork. Structural design, vibration isolation, acoustic treatment, MEP equipment and commissioning stay with their own specialists, and the quotation states where each boundary sits.

The enquiry form accepts up to three files of 10 MB each (PDF, DWG, XLSX, DOC, DOCX, JPG and PNG), so drawings and the BOQ can go with your first message.

General building steel, pipe racks, platforms and equipment supports are described in more detail on our structural steel fabrication, pipe rack, industrial platform and equipment support pages. This page covers the points that are specific to a data centre package.

Where fabrication ends and other scopes begin

A steel fabrication package is easy to misread as a wider scope, so we state the boundaries in the quotation.

  • Structural design: member sizes, connection design and loading criteria come from the responsible designer. We fabricate to the approved drawings.
  • Vibration isolation and acoustic work: isolators, inertia bases and acoustic enclosures are specified and supplied separately. We quote the steel that carries them and note the interface.
  • MEP equipment: chillers, generators, pipes, cable trays and busduct are supplied and installed by others.
  • Commissioning: testing and commissioning of equipment is outside a steel package.

Drawing and interface checks before steel is cut

Equipment frames fail at the interface, not in the member. Before release for fabrication we ask that structural, equipment and service drawings use the same reference levels and current revisions, and we check base plate patterns, anchor bolt positions, maintenance clearances and assembly dimensions against the vendor drawings.

Late vendor changes are flagged before the affected members are cut. Who prepares fabrication drawings and who approves connections is agreed at quotation stage. If a coordination model is supplied, the enquiry should say what review and deliverables are expected.

Fabrication, inspection and records

The project specification sets the steel grade, welding code, tolerances, inspection hold points and finish. Please send it with the enquiry; we quote to it.

The required material certificates, dimensional inspection records, welding documentation and test reports are agreed against the project specification before order acceptance. A standard applied to a project is not a company certification, and the quotation keeps the two apart. General information is on our manufacturer credentials page.

Protective finishes

State whether each member group is painted or hot-dip galvanised, with the paint system or galvanising specification. We offer hot-dip galvanising. Galvanised assemblies require suitable venting and drainage. Maximum assembly dimensions and any staged dipping arrangements are confirmed before fabrication. Touch-up of coating at bolted joints and site welds should sit in someone’s scope.

Supply, delivery and erection scope

Separate fabrication only, supply and delivery, and supply and erection in the BOQ. Identify who is responsible for unloading, cranes, lifting accessories, access equipment, anchor bolts and civil readiness.

For phased work, group deliveries by building, floor or equipment zone and tie drawing release, inspection approval and site readiness to the erection sequence. Our steel erection page explains how site work is organised.

Questions buyers ask

Can you quote equipment support steel on its own?

Yes, if the frames, platforms or utility supports are identifiable in the drawings and BOQ. A defined sub-package can be reviewed separately from the main building steel.

Do you design the steelwork?

Our package is fabrication and erection from approved drawings. We do not provide independent structural design certification. Design and detailing responsibilities are written into the quotation.

Can drawings be sent through the website?

Yes. The enquiry form has an optional upload field for up to three files of 10 MB each. Larger drawing sets can be shared by link or arranged after the first contact.

How long does a quotation take?

It depends on how complete the drawings are, the quantities and the open technical queries. Give your tender deadline in the enquiry and we will say what is realistic.
